Understanding Our Pack-Away Travel Bags: A Dignified Solution for Children in Care

At Madlug, we believe in the power of dignity and respect for every child in care. That’s why, with every bag purchased, a pack-away travel bag goes to a child in care. But what exactly are our pack-away travel bags, and how do they make a difference?

The Challenge: Moving with Bin Bags

Unfortunately, most children in care have their belongings moved in black bin bags. This often occurs due to unexpected changes of home or unprepared placements, leaving children feeling undervalued and disrespected. We aim to change this narrative.

Introducing Madlug’s Pack-Away Travel Bag

Madlug’s pack-away travel bag is a 35-litre duffel bag specifically designed to stop the use of bin bags. These bags fold up into a small pouch, making them easy to store and transport. They were developed alongside care-experienced young people to ensure they fit their needs perfectly.

Key Features of Our Bags

Lightweight and Space-Saving: The lightweight design allows foster carers to store multiple bags without taking up excessive space.

Empowering Messages: Printed on the front are the words ‘You are incredible’ and ‘Value | Worth | Dignity’. This reinforces to children in care that we see them and love them.

Durable and Practical: Our bags feature strong straps, mesh side pockets, and lightweight fabric. Additionally, they are water-resistant, making them ideal for transporting belongings.

Our Impact So Far

To date, we have given over 100,000 pack-away bags to children in care across the UK and Ireland, and we are committed to continuing this important work. By June 2025, our 10th birthday, we aim to give away 125,000 pack-away bags to young people in care.
